  • Capable of expressing basic information and the use of basic greetings
  • Limited capability to converse at a higher linguistic structure and restricted vocabulary in traveller-like situations

Learning outcomes:

  • Express in simple terms, the immediate world around you
  • Enquire and answer questions about personal details, such as where you live, people you know and things you do
  • Competence to understand the language spoken slowly, clearly and directly
  • Facility to sustain short conversations using mainly the present tense, along with some standard phrases for the past

Previous knowledge:

  • Be able to create simple sentences and can express and respond to simple questions
  • Capable to deal with situations necessary to survive in an environment where the target language is spoken e.g. travel, accommodation, shopping, socialising
  • Have a basic knowledge of grammatical structures, including different tenses and word’s order
  • Have enough vocabulary to carry out simple conventions

Learning outcomes:

  • Talk about familiar matters related to the past and the future
  • Interact in a simple manner, mostly if the interlocutor talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help
  • Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a clear and direct exchange of information on habitual matters
  • Basic knowledge of different grammatical structures

Previous knowledge:

  • Can understand and use simple structures fairly consistently 
  • Have a practical idea of how the syntactic system works, and have a vocabulary of about 700 words
  • Can express yourself in a familiar context, even if you still make a number of syntactic or grammatical mistakes

Learning outcomes:

  • Deal with most situations encountered at work, school, leisure activities, etc.
  • Describe experiences & events and give explanations for opinions and plans
  • Explain dreams, hopes, ambitions and other abstract concepts (together with the point above)
  • Read simple literature texts as well as write letters and compositions about general areas of daily life

  • Possess a good understanding of all the essential structures and can use them with a reasonable degree of precision.

  • Can interact at a good degree of fluency and spontaneity. You also make regular communication with native speakers reasonably clearly and without great misunderstandings from either party

Learning outcomes:

  • Capability to generate well-structured, detailed written letters or short essays on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns and organized procedures
  • Deal with more complex grammatical structure and read contemporary texts without particular difficulty
  • Understanding of how to use idiomatic expressions and other stylistic resources
  • Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain different viewpoints of a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options
